The Swallow-tailed Kite used to breed as far north as Minnesota.  Now it is found in eastern Texas, east to Florida, and north to South Carolina.  The birds that move through Florida on migration fly down the Florida Keys and then to the western end of Cuba.  From there, they fly to the Yucatan Peninsula and then down through Central America to Winter in South America.  There is a permanent resident population throughout most of South America.  It is a spectacular species that has adapted to nesting in suburban areas of South Florida.  They feed on insects, reptiles, and, a favorite, nestling birds.   It truly is a spectacular species to see!
