Common Nighthawks are found almost all over North America.  They feed mostly at night on insects, they can often be seeing flying in the day.  The female lays eggs on the ground often in open weedy areas.  They lay two eggs gray in color with mottled brown.

They incubate them from 15-20 days which is a pretty short time period.  Once the babies hatch, they will fledge in as little as 15 days.  In the United States we have three species of nighthawk, Common Nighthawk, Antillean Nighthawk and Lesser Nighthawk.  The state of Florida has all  three species with the Lesser Nighthawk only being found in the Winter.
