Today while I was at my environmental job site, I heard a La Sagra’s Flycatcher. It called three times but I’ll be darned if I could see the bird or record it.
The La Sagra’s Flycatcher is normally found in the Bahamas to the north and south into Cuba and the Cayman Islands. It is always a treat to get to see one!
After I left my job site which is just north of Biscayne National Park, I went home and met Mike from Arizona. He wanted me to take him to find a Black-whiskered Vireo and a Mangrove Cuckoo. This was at 2:00 pm which isn’t a very good time to look for birds.
It was very hot and humid and the Deer Flies and Mosquitos were out. We had brief looks at a Black-whiskered Vireo in the heat of the day. From there we traveled to North Key Largo to look for Mangrove Cuckoo. While searching for a Mangrove Cuckoo I heard a La Sagra’s Flycatcher calling. After some time looking, Mike saw the bird in a tree over the road! We were able to get great looks at the bird.
We later heard a Mangrove Cuckoo calling but we never saw it. Mike was very, very happy! Tomorrow I hope to see and photograph the one I heard on my job site!
